New Puppy Checklist!!

Here’s an easy checklist of things you’ll absolutely need before your Certified Sweet puppy comes home!

  1. Order your food!! Make sure it’s there beforehand, in a secure area. PawTree takes 5-7 days to arrive (usually shorter but prepare yourself just in case!) Link: PawTree Nutrition - bookmark this site!! All of our puppies and adult dogs are on the Whitefish & Brown Rice recipe with a squirt or 2 of Salmon oil for their coats. All of my recommendations can be found in the PawTree menu under My Recommendations: Sugar Cane Doodle Puppies. We also recommend getting a container to store it in (Sams, Walmart, Etc). For the first week or so, we also suggest adding a little pure Pumpkin (NOT pumpkin puree) to your puppy’s food - just about a teaspoon or so- with a little warm water. A new atmosphere, surrounding, being away from their littermates, etc can make a new puppy nervous with an upset stomach.

  2. Puppy Essentials. Dog bowls, crate with divider (we highly recommend for the safety of your puppy and your belongings to crate your puppy until out of the puppy phase), chew toys, puppy shampoo/conditioner (we use spray conditioner), metal comb and slicker brush. You can opt to get a dog bed but don’t put it in crate while potty training. You’ll want to leave the crate empty otherwise the dog bed will soak up the mess and puppy will never learn. Links available soon of our favorite products!!! Also, skip the unhealthy treats for now!!! Puppies can be trained with their own dog food for now and are MUCH healthier for them.

  3. NuVet Vitamins. All of our dogs and puppies get NuVet vitamins every day! They love the wafers so much that they think they’re treats. NuVet vitamins give our dogs healthy coats, no allergies, and great overall health. (There are supplements for aging dogs as well! And we LOVE their ear cleaner) LINK: NuVet Labs

  4. Pet Insurance. Activate your FREE 30-day Trupanion pet insurance!! I can’t stress this enough! If an accident happens, you’ll be happy it’s in place. It does not cover wellness exams. Activate it the day before puppy comes (highly recommend this time) or the day of puppy arrival (but you’ll be busy giving puppy snuggles!). It will EXPIRE after that.

  5. Establish Vet Relationship: Make your first vet appointment! Puppies will already have their 8-week shots, microchipped and check-up. However, a new environment, being away from littermates, etc can stress out a new puppy which can activate intestinal parasites in their bodies. This is very common. A quick vet visit by day 3 is very important! I have done this with every single dog I’ve ever owned and just highly recommend not waiting until their 12 weeks shots.

  6. PAWS OFF THE GROUND!!! Until all three boosters have been administered, your puppy is seriously AT-RISK and is what we call, “PAWS OFF THE GROUND.” Your sweet puppy’s adorable little feet should never touch the ground except for inside YOUR house and inside YOUR back yard.

  7. Health and Spay / Neuter Contract. Don’t forget to review and sign this document!
